Important Facts About Honey
About Honey

Honey is a dense, durable, natural nutrient with high vitamin values, which is formed as a result of
processing the sweet liquid found in plants, called nectar, with certain enzymes secreted in the body
of bees.

Honey, which carries the nutritional values of thousands of plants and flowers, has been used as a
cure for many diseases for centuries.

Honey production, on the other hand, is a job that requires great effort. It is known that 17,000 bees
visit approximately 10 million flowers to obtain 450 g of honey.

Our country has an important place in world beekeeping. Especially in our eastern regions, quality
and natural honey can be produced due to climate and geographical reasons.

However there are products with honey taste and sold under the name of honey in our country.
Some of these products, known as 'fake honey', are made using corn syrup or glucose and honey
essence. In order not to fall into the trap of fake honey, prefer honey that is produced under
hygienic, controlled conditions and analyzed in well-equipped laboratories.

What is Fake Honey?

Honey that contains artificial honey flavor, colorant, sweetener, glucose, corn syrup and artificial
honeycomb is considered fake honey.

Does Genuine Honey Crystallize?

Crystallization of honey is a natural physical change process of honey. One of the properties of real
honey is that it can crystallize. The sugar / water ratio in the content of honey affects the
crystallization. Honey with high nectar content is more easily sugared. Crystallization of honey is
possible with a temperature between 14-15°C. Crystallization is higher when there are sudden
temperature changes depending on the season.

What are the Elements that Determine the Quality of Honey?

The quality of a honey depends on more than one factor. The characteristics of the region depend on
factors such as the lack of agriculture around, not giving the medicine such as antibiotics etc., not
using glucose and corn syrup, the construction of a honeycomb by bee colony, the richness of the
plant flora, the diversity of endemic plants, and the altitude.
